On1st February 2002, Research Study of Central Iran Basin Project was assigned to PEDEX as a main contractor and its subcontractors for a period of 4 years under Supervision of NIOC Exploration Directorate.

More than 50 reports were provided in the fields of Geology, Geophysics and Geochemistry including maps, figures, and tables in digital formats. These Reports provides an updated and comprehensive reevaluation of hydrocarbon potential of Central Iran Basin (Saveh-Qom-Kashan-Zavareh regions).

The most important activities are surface and subsurface information (surface sections, well and seismic data) including biostratigraphy, sedimentology, sequencestratigraphy, structuralgeology, producing of different maps in GIS format (such as synthesized geological map of basin , topographic data, stratigraphic guide map, fault map…), seismic interpretation, reservoir evaluation and source rock. Petroleum potential assessment is based on key geological factors (from hydrocarbon generation to trapping mechanisms). It includes the hydrocarbon volumetric evaluation, risk analysis of proposed targets and plays.

Another activity of this project is satellite pictures interpretation of whole territory for the purpose of identification of linear structures and macro targets of projects. It should be noted that many reports were prepared after laboratory verification of surface and sub surface samples and Qom reservoir was surveyed in respect of source of hydrocarbon by studying about 3000 samples that were taken from oil wells and ground surface.

Furthermore, explorative targets of region was identified for the first time by interpretation of about 4600 km of seismic lines and this information has played a valuable role in clarification of existing structures in the region. All these data were analyzed and relevant prospects submitted to NIOC in the order of their importance and scale of drilling risks.
